SERVICE CREDIT ACCRUAL AND PURCHASE

AIR TIME

If you have at least 25 years of service credit, you may purchase up to 3 years of additional service credit at retirement. Air time service can only be purchased at the time you apply for retirement.

Air time eligibility is not based on any other type of employment.

The cost to purchase air time is the full actuarial cost of the additional service, making it one of the most expensive types of service purchases we offer. If you withdraw your retirement application and do not retire, TRS will refund your money for any air time purchased and your service credit will be adjust accordingly.
