SERVICE CREDIT ACCRUAL AND PURCHASE

VISITING SCHOLAR CREDIT

A maximum of two years of service as a visiting scholar at a public college or university may be established as service credit by members who were granted a leave of absence from a unit of the University System of Georgia  for such purpose. Such service must be included in the maximum of 10 years of service allowable under the out-of-state provisions of TRS law, and it cannot be established if you are eligible for benefits based on the service from another source, except social security.  

Your cost is based on your salary at the time of making application for the service and includes the appropriate employee and employer contributions, plus interest.
