Clayton County Accreditation

All teachers employed by an employer as defined by O.C.G.A. § 47- 3-1 are required to be a member of the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) as a condition of employment. Georgia law as it relates to membership and service with the TRS, does not require that the employer be accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) or any other accrediting association recognized by the State Board of Education. Therefore, if you are a teacher in Clayton County, regardless of accreditation status, you are required to be a member of the TRS and your membership service and retirement benefits are NOT affected by the outcome of the SACS investigation.
