The History of TRS

Serving Georgia’s Educators Since 1943

The Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) was established in 1943 by an act of the Georgia General Assembly to provide retirement security to those citizens who choose to dedicate their lives to educating the children and adults of Georgia.

TRS is the largest public retirement system in Georgia. Its purpose is to proficiently administer the retirement fund in order to provide its members and their beneficiaries with income at retirement or upon disability or death.
