Beneficiary Information – Active Members

Should I Keep Accurate Beneficiary Information on File?

When you joined TRS, you were instructed to go online and provide TRS with your beneficiary designations. It is important to keep accurate beneficiary information on file with TRS. Divorce, remarriage, a birth or death in your family could impact the beneficiary choices you have on file with our office.

You may review and change your beneficiary information by logging into your account. You should ensure your beneficiary information is always up to date. Wills, divorces decrees, remarriages, etc. do not determine the settlement of your account at your death.

Should you die prior to retirement, TRS will use the beneficiary information on file with our office to determine disposition of benefits to your surviving beneficary(ies). Based on selections you have on file with TRS and your service credit, should you die prior to retirement, your beneficiary(ies) are entitled to either a refund of your contributions and interest or a monthly payment for life.
