Collections Analyst
Summary
Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the Collections Analyst is responsible for collecting and reconciling overpaid benefits on retirement accounts and supporting the optimization of TRS GA’s collection portfolio. This role requires strong analytical abilities, professionalism, and independent decision-making while helping ensure the accuracy and sustainability of member benefits.
Description
Minimum Qualifications & Education
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college/university OR five years of experience in a financial‑related role or defined benefit plan environment
- 2–4 years of collections experience, including negotiating payments, resolving disputes, and managing complex accounts
- Ability to work independently and meet established goals
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

- Strong professional verbal communication skills; ability to remain calm, diplomatic, and firm
- Ability to adapt in a fast‑paced environment with shifting deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Review member accounts to determine and verify overpayment details
- Analyze complex overpayment issues and develop resolution plans
- Negotiate repayment terms and prepare contractual repayment agreements
- Investigate disputes and provide appropriate resolutions or supporting documentation
- Record all collection activities and maintain accurate documentation
- Send payment acknowledgment letters outlining balances and due dates
- Maintain and reconcile the Master Collection database
- Coordinate with Accounting to ensure accurate posting of cash receipts and resolve discrepancies
- Conduct in‑person consultations regarding overpayments
- Prepare legal packages for civil litigation or criminal prosecution
- Perform additional duties as assigned
